DIY Beauty: Citrus Salt Body Scrub

Winter Citrus is going to be featured all week long on the site! Not only our we cooking up a storm with it, but we are incorporating it into our winter beauty routine. Hiding under multiple layers, this is the time of year when skin often becomes neglected.  Dryer than usual by being exposed to extreme cold and then stifling indoor heat, your skin needs a little extra attention. Our DIY Citrus Salt Body Scrub contains fine sea salt with a blend of jojoba, olive and sweet almond oils along with grapefruit and sweet orange essential oils to moisturize, exfoliate and brighten your skin. Did I mention that citrus oils are known to increase circulation and in turn are thought to help combat cellulite? Additionally, the fresh citrus smell is uplifting and helps to wake you up in the morning. Use once a week all winter long and enjoy the skin boosting effects! Go to the jump for the recipe.

Citrus Body Scrub

1 1/2 cup fine sea salt
3 tablespoons olive oil
3 tablespoons jojoba oil
2 tablespoons sweet almond oil
10 drops of grapefruit essential oil
10 drops of sweet orange essential oil
* If available, we prefer to use all organic ingredients.

In a medium bowl, combine the sea salt with the olive, jojoba and sweet almond oils. Then add the grapefruit and sweet orange essential oils. Pour mixture into an airtight container and store in a cool dry place.

Before shower, mix or shake ingredients together. Beginning with your legs, apply the Citrus Salt Body Scrub in a firm circular motion working up your body. Avoid your genitals, face or any broken skin. Once you have covered your entire body with the scrub, then rinse off with warm water and pat body dry with a clean towel.

* The oil in this scrub makes the shower/tub very slippery. Be sure to use a rubber tub mat to help avoid slipping and then give the tub/shower a wipe afterward getting out of the shower. Also, citrus essentials oils make your skin more sensitive to sun - be sure to stay out of the sun for the day or cover up and wear SPF.
