DIY Beauty: Hot Oil Winter Hair Treatment
Winter weather can wreck havoc on your hair! The seasonal elements of ice cold wind, rain and snow can result in dryness, friziness and dullness. However, with some extra special care and attention, you can maintain your lovely locks. We recommend deep conditioning your hair 2x's a month with an all natural hot oil treatment. Per usual, we prefer to make our own and have just the DIY recipe to bring your hair softness and shine all frosty season long.
The recipe is a combination of warm nourishing vegetable oils, honey and rosemary essential oil. Olive, jojoba and avocado oils have known moisturizing properties for the hair and scalp, honey acts as a humectant to help lock in moisture and rosemary essential oil strengthens and stimulates hair growth.
Hot Oil Winter Hair Treatment
2 ounces olive oil
2 ounces jojoba oil
1 ounce avocado oil
25 drops rosemary essential oil
1-2 teaspoons honey
Pour the olive, jojoba and avocado oils into a glass bottle. Add the rosemary oil and shake well. Once finished with treatment, store in a cool dry place for later use.
In a double boiler, gently heat 1 to 2 teaspoons of honey and 1 to 2 teaspoons of the oil mixture to a comfortable warm temperature. Damp you hair with warm water, then massage the warm oil mixture into your scalp and work through your hair all the way to the ends.
Pile your hair onto the top of your head and place a shower cap over your hair. Then place a hot, damp towel over the shower cap to help the oils penetrate the hair. Leave in place for 30 minutes to 1 hour, replacing the hot towel as it cools.
Wash your hair to remove the treatment (sometimes this has to be done twice). If needed, you may add a small amount of your usual conditioner. Give you hair a cold rinse to help close the shafts of the hair. Let your hair air-dry to give it a break from harsh heat.
VoilĂ ! Look at your fabulous hair!
